Today’s post is a little different than the usual printable or worksheet. I’m participating in iHomeschool Network’s 10 in 10 Series.
Today’s topic?
10 Things You Should Know About Me
So here they are, in no particular order:
I have trouble saying no.
Eek. This one character traits bites me in the rear all of the time. Thankfully, I have a husband who helps me pick up the pieces when I over commit…which is often.
Which leads me to…
I love my family dearly.
My husband and children are precious gifts to me and I don’t dare take them for granted.
I’ve been blessed with loving, faithful parents, a fab brother, easy-to-get-along with in-laws, and a precious-to-my-heart niece and nephews.
I pray that my children know that they are surrounded by a family who loves them and wants the best for them and will go down fighting for them.
I want family to be as important to them as it is to me.
I want to live out in the country.
Right now we live in suburbia land and while it has a few perks, my heart would really love for us to live out in the country (but not too far…a girl needs internet access, ya know.)
My husband and I dream of sitting on the front porch in the evening and only hearing the world around us – not traffic or our neighbor’s lawn mower. We want our kids to have unlimited grass to run and play and explore in.
Maybe one day. 🙂
I really enjoy cooking.
Yesterday marks 9 weeks since our family has been gluten-free (or attempted to be GF). I didn’t know going into this process that I’d have to completely learn how to cook most dishes again. The days of melt-in-your-mouth pancakes are gone!
I do love to cook for my family, despite our latest dietary restrictions. There’s nothing like hearing one of my kiddos exclaim, “Mama! That was so GOOD!”
The truest of compliments!
I was a Registered Nurse in my past life.
I know most bloggers of educational printables/worksheets were educators in some capacity, however I don’t fit that mold.
I worked as an RN in a community hospital for almost 10 years, mostly in telemetry. Most of that time I worked the night shift from 7p-7a.
When our 3rd child was born, we saw that I needed to stay home. I miss it often, but wouldn’t dare change a thing about staying home.
Being at home with my little people is where I should be right now.
Often times, my planning and organizing of our homeschool is better than my implementation.
Sometimes the craziness and chaos of having four little people overtakes us all and my implementation of our planned day is…well, awful.
My husband gives me a good amount of time to plan, but sometimes I fail miserably when working through our daily studies.
I try to remind myself that tomorrow is a new day and we can try again.
I love to play the piano.
My mama taught me the C scale when I was a little girl, and I’ve been hooked on the piano ever since. I’m no virtuoso, just have a love of playing.
My parents were kind enough to get a piano when I was 8 or 9. I distinctly remember the day it was delivered: joy!
My Aunt Sandy taught me to play with two hands, the first song being “At Calvary.”
I played for my church and school chorus all through middle school and high school, and those are some of my fondest growing up memories.
I love to be in ocean water.
I could float in ocean water all day. I love it, despite my extremely fair skin!
I like to have time alone.
Alone time for me rarely happens. I know that when I have the opportunity to be alone, that it is a gift from God. This season in my life is not one of solitude and I am finally okay with that. 🙂
Which leads me to…
I know Jesus.
I don’t talk about religion much here at Mama’s, only because that’s not the focus of this site. But interestingly enough He IS the focus of this site because God infiltrates all that I do – how I parent, how I homeschool, how I spend my free time, how and what I blog about, my financial decisions, how I respond to emails, and so on.
How lost I’d be without Him.
Tricia
I love this visit with you! And I can relate to soooo much – amen to how lost I’d be without Him! And fair skinned girl floating in the ocean, week four of the gf journey for us… Sweet picture of you and your girl! And I’d love to hear you play piano 🙂
Lauren Hill
Tricia, yes, I think we have a lot in common! Thank you so much for stopping by. 🙂
Sharla
I feel like I learned so much about you from this! I didn’t realize that you were gluten-free. I only cook gluten free for one of my sons but I find it a huge challenge. I also didn’t know that you used to be a nurse.
Lauren Hill
Sharla, I’m so glad you stopped by today – thank you! I found it impossible to cook GF for only one of us, so now we’re all GF…and feel like brand new people. The difference is truly amazing. 🙂
Good to see you! 🙂
Rebecca
Hmmm…I can see a farm – with the view of the ocean on one side and the mountains on the other. Maybe that’s the Carolina girl in me! Love you dearly and so blessed by you.

Hi Lauren,
I just found your post on pinterest. Aside from having a hard time saying no and wanting to live in the country, we could be twins. =) All the best to you on this home educating journey. It goes soooo fast, but the relationships and the memories are so worthwhile! What a great site you have here.
Sylvia
Oh, and for me being able to say no is kind of a newly acquired skill. It has come with being in my late 40’s, recently making a big church change, and having a special needs son. =) My kids are spaced almost exactly like yours, but mine are 21, 19, 17, and 16 now.

Thanks for sharing Lauren, its so nice to get to know you and to know that we are sisters in Christ !! There is no way I could get through my days here without the LORD by my side. I hope you have a great school year and a blessed one. We start school back up on August 3 🙂 A seventh grade boy and a second grade boy . Should be fun !! We have lots and lots of grass here in Maryland , come by and play anytime 🙂 I also love the ocean, its just a few hours away from us . Take care and thank you so much for sharing your heart. ~Amy

LOL! Had to smile when I read about the song “At Calvary” as that was the first song I learned to play on the guitar when I was younger. I hope you get to move to the country at some point. Believe me, it is worth it and you can get DSL in some places. We are 30 miles out and have great service but it stops with us! The neighbors across the street cannot get it!
Thanks for sharing 🙂
Lauren Hill
Yay for “At Calvary”! I’m laughing at the DSL ending with you – when I was growing up, the (brand new) cable ended with us! So I can relate. 🙂
Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Loved this and you Lauren!

Love you too, my dear friend!! xoxo
