I hope you’re loving this Nursery Rhyme week here at Mama’s Learning Corner. I sure am, because nursery rhymes are some of my favorite unit studies to do with my children!
They never grow old and will be remembered for a lifetime!
How do I know?
Because my own mother read and recited many nursery rhymes to me as a child.
“You may have tangible wealth untold;
Caskets of jewels and coffers of gold.
Richer than I you can never be –
I had a mother who read to me.”
–from The Reading Mother by Strickland Gillilan
Today’s nursery rhyme is a beloved favorite: Baa, Baa, Black Sheep!
Baa Baa Black Sheep Nursery Rhyme
Baa, Baa, Black Sheep is such a neat rhyme! It seems as if the sequencing cards in this activity are just extra fun.
This rhyme also has a lot of teaching opportunities, so make sure you don’t pass those up!
You and your kiddos can talk about why the sheep is “giving” its wool, why each of the three characters in the story would need the wool, define what a ‘dame’ is, and more.
As mamas and teachers, there are teaching opportunities everywhere we look, even in simple things like nursery rhymes.
We just have to have our eyes open for them!
