My 1st and 3rd grade girls can’t get enough of the writing booklets with picture dictionaries! I’ve published a few over the past year, and I have several on my laptop that I have not yet had the chance to post.
I don’t use any type of formal writing curriculum until 4th or 5th grade, except the writing exercises from Rod & Staff English. We also do copywork and dictation each week.
Aside from those things mentioned, I just sprinkle in writing assignments here and there throughout our days. The activities often revolve around a wonderful book that we have enjoyed together!

Because my children and I find bees to be fascinating little creatures, we study them each year. There are quite a few of those topics that we seem to circle back to year after year. For those frequented topics, I try to create at least one new type of worksheet set or printable packet.
This year, I decided to add a Bees Writing Booklet with Picture Dictionary for my 1st and 3rd grade girls to complete. They’re thrilled!

Bee Writing Booklet with Picture Dictionary
Because I have a pile of kids and there’s only 1 of me, I need to combine my children when possible. These writing booklets are the perfect way to accommodate a variety of ages and abilities.
Provide as much or as little writing support as needed for your young learners.
During our science time, we will read a couple of our favorite books about bees throughout the week. Each day, I’ll have my girls choose at least one picture from the dictionary, find the appropriate page in the writing booklet, and write 1-3 sentences about the picture.
If you use narration in your homeschool, this is a great way to practice that with mom as the scribe.
This writing activity is also perfect for practicing sentence construction, capitalization, punctuation, descriptive words, parts of speech, and much more!
I have also included a variety of ways to use these writing booklets in your home or classroom with an assortment of ages!
All Access Pass members can download this entire writing packet in the All Access Pass area.
