Color By Code Alphabet Beginning Sound Worksheets

Color by number and color by code worksheets are such a nice change of pace from traditional worksheets. When my children are in the elementary years, I try to provide a steady diet of different methods of learning and practice.

This set of color by code worksheets will be just the right fit for your young readers that are practicing CVC and CVCC words!

Color By Code Alphabet Beginning Sound Worksheets

This packet of color by code worksheets contains 26 pages, one for each letter of the alphabet.

Each page features one letter of the alphabet, and your child searches for the words in the picture and colors according to the code.

Pages usually have 8 words, although a few have up to 10 words.  Most of the words in the code are CVC or CVCC words, and almost all practice the short vowel sound.

For example, the words that children practice on the Letter T page include: Tim, tent, top, tan, tell, tax, toss, tug.

Only the Letter X worksheet focuses on the ending sound of x, since the few English words that start with x are difficult phonetically.

Before your child gets started coloring, it is always a good idea to go over each word. Make sure your child can read the word and knows its meaning.

Some of the words are a bit different – pun, quint, or oft. What a great opportunity to learn the meanings of those words if your child is unfamiliar!

This type of page is also a perfect time to work on phonics as needed. If your child struggles with ‘ck’ making /k/, there are several chances to practice in these pages.

Mastery of CVC words is essential, and practice makes perfect with these worksheets!
