Today I’m back with another set of CVC Clip Cards! This set focuses on CVC words with the short e sound.
As I mentioned in the CVC Short A Clip Card post, my 5 1/2 year old is slowly moving along with learning to read. We’re continuing with All About Reading Level 1, and we’re working our way through Lesson 4.
Yes, it’s slow going, but I’m quite content to go at her turtle speed. I know that she will eventually zoom like my other little readers!

My daughter is still working on forming all of her letters, and handwriting is not something I push. (Learned that lesson the hard way with my oldest child!)
These clip cards are just right for her, since there is no writing involved.
They are also a good fit for her since they intentionally only have 2 words. If there were 3-4 words for each picture, she would be completely overwhelmed.
Because these cards are simple, she can feel successful!
To prepare these cards, I simply printed on card stock. If I was using in a classroom or with multiple children, I’d laminate them for durability.
I supplied a handful of clothespins with 4-5 of the cut-apart cards, and my daughter clipped away!
If you don’t have clothespins on hand, you can use Skittles (the favorite here at the Hill House!), small rocks, or any other manipulative you have lying around.
This Short E set focuses on words that end in:
-et, -ed, -en, -et, -em, -eb, -eg, and -ed

Awesome! Thank you. I really love these short vowel clip cards. Will you be creating clip cards for the short i, o and u vowels anytime soon?
