Forest Animals Coloring Pages
This set of half-page coloring pages features types of animals that you would find in a temperate forest. Because they are half-pages, your children can cut along the dotted lines and staple down the edge to create a mini-booklet.
These are so fun and a nice change of pace!
You will find 8 pages in this packet, which will create a 16-page coloring booklet.
After your child colors the picture, he can choose to trace the word on each page.
For most words, there is enough writing line to try writing the word again without the tracing helps.
If your child is a beginning reader, you can practice some easy phonics. Here are a few ideas:
- Discuss the beginning sound of each animal
- Review the ending sound of each animal – this one is always a bit harder!
- Review the vowel in simple words and whether it is long or short. You can use this idea with the animal ‘bat’ or ‘rabbit’ or ‘skunk’.
- There are several consonant blends in this set of coloring pages. Point those out and then think of other words that have the same sound.
For example, you can choose the animal ‘skunk’. Then think of other -UNK words such as dunk, bunk, trunk, or sunk.
For more of a challenge, change the letter U to the letter A to make -ANK. Now brainstorm a few -ANK words such as bank, tank, sank, or rank.
