Handwriting Worksheets for Kids: Dolch Primer Words!

Last year, my then Kindergartner worked on the set of handwriting worksheets I made for her using the Pre-Primer Dolch words.  She loved them and has often asks for a new set!

Sadly, I’ve just now gotten around to making the next two packets in the Dolch words set!

Today’s packet features sentences using words from the Primer Dolch list.

Handwriting Worksheets: Primer Dolch Sentences

The Primer Dolch list is a long set of words, so this packet is packed with copywork pages – 104 of them actully!

You’ll find 2 different pages for each Primer word.

For example, the 2 sentences for the word black include:

→ I see a black pencil.

→ Did you pet the black cat?

Using with a Variety of Ages

You can use these handwriting worksheets in a variety of ways with your young learners.  Here are a few ideas:

♥ For Preschool and Kindergarten: Read through each word carefully with your child. If they are using a pencil at all, let them write one word of their choosing from the sentence.  Or, you can model writing the entire sentence, pointing out the capitalization and punctuation steps.

♥ For Kindergarten and First Grade: If your child is reading, have them read the sentence to you aloud, helping with any unknown words.  As with the younger crowd, choose only 1 word for writing practice if your child isn’t writing full sentences yet.  And it’s still okay for you, Mom, to model writing the sentence!

Make sure you point out capitalization and punctuation areas.  You could even start to introduce nouns, if your child is ready for that.

♥ Second Graders: Have second graders write the whole sentence.  Can they add a sentence of their own after the copywork?  Maybe they can answer the question (if the copywork is interrogative).  Perhaps they can underline the nouns, verb, or adjectives they find in the sentence.

And of course all kiddos can color the fun picture on the page if they so choose!
