As you know, I published a monthly set of Word Search puzzles in 2017. I am giving them a face lift this year, and that brings us to the month of March!
This beginning part of the post is the original from 2017 when I had a new little one due any second! Aw, memories. ❤️
Hi Friends! I’m just a bit early in posting the March Word Search Packet, but we have a baby that is due any day, and I wanted to make sure that you had the packet in time!
I’m not sure how often I’ll be able to update Mama’s once the baby is born, so I’m working to post all of the finished items before his or her arrival!
So fire up your printers, because I have a brand new set of March Word Searches for your 1st through 4th graders!
ETA: The baby arrived!
✅ Browse through all of the word search puzzles here at Mama’s Learning Corner! Not only will you find monthly themes, but also phonics work such as short vowels and long vowels. More topics include holiday themes and U.S. States.

March Word Search Puzzle Packet
Like the other monthly word search packets, we don’t cover each of these themes in our own homeschool. We do, however, go over each of the topics in the word search packets.
It’s an easy way to expose my younger ones to different vocabulary words. It’s not often we talk about the Spring Equinox, but this word search theme gives us a great opportunity to do just that!
If there is a topic that sparks lots of interest and questions, I’ll find us a couple of books to read from the library. Word searches can be a great jumping off point for a variety of learning opportunities!
Each word in the search can be found horizontally, vertically, or diagonally from left to right.
Each word search puzzle includes 12 words, and there are 10 word search puzzles total.
The themes in this printable March Word Search Puzzle set include:
★ St. Patrick’s Day – Traditional words related to the Irish holiday
★ Saint Patrick – Words related to the real Saint Patrick, Patron Saint of Ireland
★ March is Windy! – Uses the proverb ‘March comes in like a lion…’
★ Jesus’ Resurrection
★ Easter Fun! – Eggs, bunnies, baskets, etc.
★ Ides of March
★ Spring Equinox
★ Daylight Savings Time
★ Let’s Read – March is National Reading Month
★ The Iditarod – Starts on the first Saturday of March each year
Also includes an answer key.
Why Word Search Puzzles for Kids?
Are word searches just busy work for kids? I say absolutely not!
Yes, they are fun pages, but word searches can be packed with learning.
Here are a few suggestions:
- These word searches are grouped by theme. Choose a ‘theme for the day’ or have a ‘Fun Friday Theme’ each week. Talk about the theme – read a book, watch an educational You Tube video, and go over each vocabulary word. Ensure your children know what each word means and can use it appropriately in a sentence.
- Do your students need phonics help? Choose a few words from the word bank in the puzzle and focus on a particular phonics concept. For example, choose to work on vowel teams, silent letters (such as a silent k or g), consonant blends, tricky spelling concepts, or types of syllables. The opportunities for phonics mastery are endless here.
Need help with teaching spelling? Take a look at How I Teach Spelling in Our Homeschool - Use this as a brainstorming activity. After reviewing the vocabulary words together on your chosen puzzle page, brainstorm other words that could be included. Make a list on the board and add to it throughout the day or week.
- Need penmanship practice? Have your child write the vocabulary words – in print or cursive – in their best penmanship.
Need more handwriting resources? Hop over to my handwriting and copywork section to find a variety of helps.
