Way back in 2016, I had the lovely idea to post 365 days of Children’s Books. We are avid readers here at the Hill House, and this seemed like a marvelous idea!
Unfortunately, I didn’t get very far with it – only 20 days’ worth of Children’s Books. Yikes!
Because there are so many worthy books on our shelves, I decided to resurrect this old idea.
Many of the first 20 books had a lot to do with winter and snow, so I’ll just save those and republish them as the weather cools off.
Will I make it past day 20 again? Will I be able to publish one every single day for 365 days?
Well, that remains to be seen! But I will certainly try!
Also, my children have grown older since I had this original idea. I’ll make sure to include books for a wide range of ages from Preschool through upper elementary and maybe even middle school. You’ll find picture books, easy readers, chapter books, and more.
So let’s get started! Here’s a brand new Day #1 of 365 Days of Children’s Books!

Welcome to Day 1 of my favorite series here at Mama’s: 365 Days of Children’s Books!
Today’s book is an oldie but goodie: My Truck is Stuck!
When my oldest was a toddler, we read this particular book over and over again. It was one of the favorites that we memorized due to frequency.
Now, I have the joy of re-reading this book over (and over and over) with my current toddler. What a joy!
Make sure you bookmark the 365 Days of Children’s Books page so you can easily find a new-to-you book before your next library trip!
My Truck is Stuck!
Book: My Truck is Stuck!
Author: Kevin Lewis
Illustrator: Daniel Kirk
My Truck is Stuck! is a delightful book about a dump truck that “loses” it’s load of bones. The truck gets stuck in a hole and needs a lot of might to get out of its predicament.
My Truck is Stuck! has a fun sing-songy rhythm, and the words just roll off the tongue. The story line is humorous, which only adds to the charm and appeal of this book!
Dump truck coming down the road.
Dump truck hauling a great big load.
Round and round the wheels they go.
Round and round into a … hole!
Rotten luck. Can’t go!
My truck is stuck!
A couple of my girls had a harder time with learning to read, and both had difficulty with rhyming words. Now, I realize how important learning to rhyme and predict rhyming text is to pre-reading skills. Books like this are just perfect for practicing this skill.
Truck Activities for Your Young Learners
If you want to extend this book just a bit, here are a few activities that you can use:
→ Download a set of Transportation Coloring Pages.
→ Have a grand time matching Transportation Puzzle Cards for Preschoolers!
→ Set up alphabet rocks to go with your dump truck.
→ Spend some time making a dump truck craft. You could even glue real sand in the truck bed!
→ Download a whole packet of Dump Truck printables!
→ And of course, get all of the dump trucks into the sand box and see what your trucks can haul: sand, dirt, rocks, leaves, bugs, or acorns.
