If you’ve been a mama for any length of time, you know that the new year doesn’t really start on January 1st each year. Well, not The Mom’s New Year at least.
The Mom’s New Year always starts in late summer/early fall, right?
So as we find our way through this mom’s new year, I am thrilled to share with you a new organizational tool that I’m using: NeuYear Calendar.
Favorite Features of This Big Calendar
There are several features of NeuYear Calendar that I absolutely love and they totally speak to my need to plan!
- The calendar is set up to run week by week, not month by month.
While it’s convenient to divide the calendar into months, I find it even more convenient to divide the calendar into weeks. One of my favorite features of this calendar is that the months run right from one to another. - The entire year is contained on one side of the calendar.
Conveniently, the entire year is contained on one side of the calendar. And since the year is printed on each side, you can choose whether to mount the calendar vertically or horizontally. While I love Google Calendar, it just doesn’t have this year-at-a-glance feature which I consider a must-have! - Simplicity.
I am not a frou-frou type of girl. I like clean, uncluttered design, and this calendar fits the bill. There are no extraneous graphics, the background and font are simple, and it’s just plain easy-to-read. Perfect. - Functionality.
The NeuYear Calendar comes in two types of finishes – dry erase and paper (for pen or pencil). I used both types of finishes and they were equally efficient for their intended purpose. I personally prefer dry erase, but if you’re a pencil person, the finish on the paper calendar is smooth, thick, and easy to erase.
How I Use A Big Calendar in Planning Our Homeschool
We use Tapestry of Grace in our homeschool, which is scheduled by weeks. It is so easy to write our weeks onto the calendar and see where we need to tweak based on vacations or time off.
In the coming months, we will also alternate the weeks we do SQUILT and the weeks we do art. I can easily plug our weeks into the calendar and planning becomes that much easier.
This year-at-a-glance calendar would be wonderful for any type of semester or quarter-type planning that homeschoolers typically do. You can plan and see everything from Classical Conversations to co-op to field trips to AWANAS.
NeuYear Calendar is a big calendar. I keep ours on our 8-foot white board since I can easily hang it with magnets and it’s a highly visual spot in our home.
This calendar would also fit perfectly on the back of a door or on a bulletin board or on the side of the refrigerator. Again, it’s designed to be used either horizontally or vertically, so the options for display are many.
