Description
Long Vowel Word Searches
To master phonics, students need an abundance of spiral review, even as they move into the upper elementary grades.
This set of long vowel word searches is a fun and engaging way to review the phonics sounds related to long vowels!
Each vowel, A through U, features 4 word searches focusing on a specific sound of that vowel.
For example, Letter A includes:
— Single Vowel A – Contains only words with the long a sound spelled with the single vowel A (paper, April, potato)
— Long A: a_e – Contains only words with the vowel-consonant-silent E pattern (cake, slate, shape)
— Long A: ai – Contains only words with the vowel team AI (rain, chain, waist)
— Long A: ay – Contains only words with the vowel team AY (May, away, today)
Each word search also includes an area to practice writing a few of the words (student’s choice!), and then identifying the letter(s) that make the given sound.
The complete packet features 40 practice pages – 20 pages with plain lines and 20 duplicate pages with primary lines for students that might need extra handwriting support.
The pages in this packet are intentionally very simple and straight-forward without cutesy graphics so they can be used with upper elementary and even middle school students as needed.
However, these word searches would also be just right for advanced 1st graders and up!
