Short U and Long U Worksheets – CVC and CVCe

I am finishing up this series of worksheet packets that all focus on CVC and CVCe words. If you are not familiar, those are words that follow a particular pattern:

consonant-vowel-consonant AND

consonant-vowel-consonant-silent E

In this packet, all of the words focus on the sounds of short u and long u.

My 6 year old boy is still working his way through all of these worksheets with me. He has needed much practice and reinforcement of letter sounds.

Short U and Long U Vowel Sound Worksheets

In this worksheet packet, you will find only Short Vowel U CVC words and Long Vowel U CVCe words. Words like ‘cub’ or ‘rude’.

I will publish future worksheet packets where we study the other ways to make the Long U sound such as the vowel team ew or vowel team ue.

This packet is helpful for beginning readers that are trying to grasp the sound of Long U versus Short U.

You will find the following activities in this worksheet set:

Practice Short U and Long U – Cut and paste the correct word under the picture
Sorting: Short U and Long U – Cut and paste the word in the correct column
Match the Picture – Match each Long U word with the correct picture
Which Word? – Choose the correct word under each picture
Find the Long U Word – Word search with clues going horizontally and vertically
Finish the Sentence – Use the word bank to complete each sentence
Color By Code – Uses Short U and Long U CVCe words

Read, Trace, and Write – Read the word, trace the word, and then write the word.
Sentence Match – Choose the sentence that best matches the picture.
Maze It! – Trace the Long U CVCe words through the maze. Then complete the words by writing the missing letters.
