Label the Picture worksheets let your Kindergarten or First Grade children practice a variety of skills – handwriting, spelling, vocabulary, fine motor skills (cut & paste!), and more. This set of Winter Label the Picture Worksheets will practice all of those skills in a fun way!
I created a free packet of Winter Label the Picture pages 10 years ago. This year, I upgraded the packet to include 30 worksheets for your young ones to practice winter words.
I left the original post mainly intact. The 5 year old referenced in the post below is now 14 and reads splendidly! So don’t give up, Mamas, if you have children that are slow to read.
Assuming there are no diagnoses to contend with, consistency is the key.

→ Make sure you don’t miss the other Label the Picture Worksheet packets. You will find a variety of holidays and seasons.

Winter Label the Picture Worksheets
Here is the original post from 2015:
My just-turned-5-year-old adores any type of cut and paste activity!
She loves cutting practice pages, scissor skills practice, and any other activity that requires the use of scissors and a glue stick.
I think it’s because she’s a crafty soul at heart!
My 5 year old is taking a bit longer to learn her letters and numbers, so she still has some trouble with actually writing them.
I don’t push her. My 6 years of homeschool experience reminds me that she will learn how to write those letters with correct formation when her fine motor skills catch up.
In the meantime, she’s a cutting and gluing kind of girl!

Because my littlest girl can’t get enough of labeling pictures, I wanted to make a set of Winter Label the Picture pages for her.
She cuts out each of the words in the word bank, and I sound out the word for her. Then she glues each picture in the correct place on the page.
Is this activity too advanced for her since she doesn’t read yet?
Not at all! I’m taking the time to sit with her and sound out each word, and she glues the picture in place.
My modeling how the word is sounded out is incredibly valuable to her. She will remember the dozens of times we have sounded out a word, and she will eventually start to sound out words in the same method.
This is, of course, in conjunction with a host of other Getting Ready to Read-type activities we do each day!
ETA in 2025: I spent much time – years, in fact – with my daughter sounding out words and intentionally spending time with phonics lessons. Yes, she was a much slower reader, but with consistent practice, she caught up with her peers.
The time investment, not to mention the patience required is worth it, Mamas! Hang in there. ❤️

I have included 30 pages in this newly updated packet. Each page has a winter theme, such as hot cocoa, skiing, sledding, ice fishing, penguins, a snowy house, and more.
- 15 pages are included with the cut and paste style: Children cut out the words and glue them beside the correct picture.
- 15 pages are included in the writing style: Children use the word bank for vocabulary and spelling help as they write the correct word beside the picture.
- Note: Both sets of pages use the same pictures.
You will find a freebie at the bottom of this post that includes 1 page of each style. See which option is the best fit for your student.
